  Wishing benevolence, courtesy, and harmony upon the world. This year is the 2,573rd year since the birth of the great sage Confucius. In order to commemorate this occasion the live broadcast of the 2022 Online Worship of the Confucian Sacrificial Rites will commence at 08:30am China standard time on September 28. Harnessing the power of more than 60 media outlets and platforms, more than 60 Confucian temples, academies, and cultural institutions (both domestic and international) will be taking place in this live broadcast for followers of Confucius from every corner of the globe to see and experience how they do the Confucian Sacrificial Rites.  With guidance and approval from the Nishan World Confucianism Center, the China Confucius Foundation, and the Shandong Provincial Office of Culture and Tourism, this event is being put on by the website of the World Center for Confucian Studies and the Jining Municipal Cultural Inheritance and Development Center with assistance from the Confucius Temple Protection Association of China, the Qufu Confucius Cultural Festival Affairs Center, Qufu Sankong Cultural and Tourism Service Co., Ltd., and the Hebei Provincial Confucian Association.

  More than 60 Confucian temples, academies, and cultural institutions from around the world jointly present the Confucian Sacrificial Rites

  A sacred sage whose precious teachings are still important to the modern world, all people respect the Great Master. Expounding upon the value which Confucianism and Confucian ritual can bring to the modern world and featuring content from the Wenshang, Qufu and Quzhou Confucius Temples in Shandong, the Yuelu Academy in Hunan, the Jianshui Confucius Temple in Yunnan, the Deyang Confucius Temple in Sichuan, the Gongcheng Confucius Temple in Guangxi, the Hunyuanzhou and Taiyuan Confucius Temples in Shanxi, the A’cheng Confucius Temple in Heilongjiang, the Tianshui Confucius Temple in Gansu, and the Eunjin-myeon Academy in South Korea’s Chungnam Province, the live broadcast of the 2022 Online Worship of the Confucian Sacrificial Rites will last for 3 hours and will include everything from in-depth explanations of the ritual music to the specifics of the ceremony’s etiquette and ritual systems.

  Five in-studio experts will provide up to date commentary on what is going on, why, and what it means

  With content produced by the on-site studio in Jinan, the Qufu Confucius Temple, the Zhengding Confucian Temple, the on-site studio in Seoul, and Confucian Temples around the world, the event has invited Professor Yan Binggang (Qufu Normal University Distinguished Fellow, Rural Confucian Research Institute Dean, and descendant of the philosopher and Confucian disciple Yan Hou) and Professor Kong Deli (descendant of Confucius and faculty member of the Capital Normal University Department of Philosophy) to join us in the studio and provide netizens with exclusive commentary on the Confucian Sacrificial Rites, their meaning, and their connotations.

  Other expert commentators will include Liu Xubing (Deputy Director of the Confucius Research Institute at the Nishan World Confucianism Center) joining from the live broadcast studio in Qufu, Gao Shitao (Executive Vice President of the Hebei Provincial Confucian Association) joining from the live broadcast studio in Zhengding, and Park Hongying (President of the Confucius Cultural Center of Korea) joining from the live broadcast studio in Seoul. These five experts will provide viewers with a systematic explanation of the differences between the modern Confucian Sacrificial Rites as performed at the Qufu Confucius Temple, the Zhengding Confucian Temple, and the Eunjin-myeon Academy. In presenting the audience with explanations of the similarities and differences between the rites as practiced in different regions, viewers will be able to better understand the charm of Chinese ritual culture.

  Eight locations along the Yellow River will jointly display their local rites

  Featuring the Qufu Confucius Temple, Deyang Confucius Temple, and Taiyuan Confucius Temple, one of the highlights of the 2022 Online Worship of the Confucian Sacrificial Rites livecast will be—for the first time ever—the “Confucian Sacrificial Rites along the Yellow River” program. As members of the audience follow members of the media in their reports on Confucian celebrations in provinces along the Yellow River, they will have the opportunity to virtually visit the Lanzhou Confucian Temple, the Tumut Confucian Temple, the Hancheng Confucian Temple, the Taiyuan Temple, the Zhengzhou Confucian Temple, the Qufu Confucian Temple, and the Jinan Fuxue Confucian Temple. This will give them a glimpse of the profound Confucian culture of the Yellow River basin as well as providing an opportunity to learn more about architectural styles and regional cultural customs.

  In the six years since the first live broadcast of the Online Worship of the Confucian Sacrificial Rites took place, it has undergone an impressive degree of development and refinement; become an important opportunity and platform for the general public to understand Confucius, Confucianism and the excellent traditional Chinese culture; gained an increasingly prominent degree of influence and appeal; and had more and more media platforms participate.
