Natural Environment
Located at 36o40'N and 117o00'E, Jinan is south to Mount Tai and neighbors the Yellow River on the north, and the terrain of Jinan slopes down from south to north. The Yellow River and the Xiaoqing River are two major river systems in Jinan. The lakes include Daming Lake, Baiyun Lake, etc.
Jinan is the capital of Shandong Province, which is an easten coastal opening city. It is the province's political, economic, cultural, science and technology, educational and financial center, and is also nation-authorized deputy provincial city and coastal opening city. The total area of Jinan is 8177 square kilometers, the urban area occupy 3257 square kilometers.
Jinan governs 6 districts and 3 counties and a city, including Lixia District, Shizhong District, Huaiyin District, Tianqiao District, Licheng District, Changqing District, Pingyin County, Shanghe County，Jiyang County and Zhangqiu City.
Jinan has a long history, which is promulgated by the state council as a historical and cultural city. And it is named Spring City because of the large number of springs.

In 2010, year-end census register population is 6.041 million, up by 1.34‰. The annual birth rate is 11.13 ‰, increased 1.74‰. The death rate of population is 8.35‰, 1.57‰ up. Natural population growth rate is 2.78‰, raised 0.17‰. Mechanical growth rate of polpulation decline 2.35‰.
