Coastal Shandong city is big on ocean education

　　The city of Qingdao, Shandong province, held its 3rd Ocean Education Forum, in the Huanghai Hotel, on Nov 20, to discuss increasing maritime awareness, more innovative marine education, and producing marine professionals.

　　It had nearly 300 scholars and experts from several dozen national ocean education bases taking part and had a ceremony to award the "National ocean awareness education base" title the North China Sea Environmental Monitoring Center, North China Sea Marine Forecasting Center, and China's scientific survey ship the "Da Yang Yi Hao".

　　Addressing the gathering was Hu Dunxin, of the Chinese Science Academy's Oceanology Institute, who spoke on understanding the importance of the ocean and making use of it. There were also paintings on display done by school children of the national ocean awareness education base and the city's ocean education.

　　Sponsors of the forum were the State Oceanic Administration’s Publicity Center and the city's education bureau.
